Sunday Opening Checker

Sundays in Italy are mostly closed — but not all. Museums and tourist sites open; most shops don't. Some cities (Milan, Bologna) now allow Sunday shopping near central areas; southern Italy is more strict. This tool tells you what's actually open.

What this solves

You arrive in Rome on Sunday and want to know which supermarkets are open, whether the Vatican is open, where to find a pharmacy, and which museums don't close on Monday. This tool gives you the Sunday-by-Sunday reality so you can plan ahead.

How to read the result

  1. The open/closed tells you whether to expect the place to be open.
  2. The typical hours narrow it down.
  3. The how to find gives you the specific trick (e.g., the pharmacy rotation list).
  4. The alternative suggests what to do if closed.

Limitations

  • "Most closed" doesn't mean all closed. Major chains and tourist zones often stay open.
  • August Sundays: many places close for Ferragosto (Aug 15) and surrounding days. Even museums may have reduced hours.
  • December Sundays: many shops open for holiday shopping.
  • Sunday before Easter: some museums add hours.
